About us

E- Mobility Research and Development Facility is a CSR initiative of Safran Engineering Services and IEEE. The Facility aims at providing the following avenues with regards to improved charging infrastructure, Smart Electric Drive systems, IoT technologies for EVs and improved Power System Dynamics.

Functional Objective :

  1. Study and Optimization of Electric Motor Drive Powertrain, packaging the Electrical & Mechanical subsystems and integrating it for control of Vehicle dynamics.
  2. Facility for High/Regular Speed Charging of Electric Vehicle using Grid and Solar Power and Research on Power System Dynamics due to EV/PHEV integration.
  3. IoT Based Smart Assist Technology and Autonomous Vehicles.

The E-Mobility R & D Facility is in the process of developing a Hardware-in-loop (HIL) test bench for Real time monitoring and control of Electric Vehicle subsystems. The facility houses a Mahindra E2O procured through the collaboration with Mahindra Electric Ltd. The Vehicle would be used to develop an HIL focussing on the performance evaluation, control and analysis of Power Train, Battery Management System and Vehicle Dynamics specifically on the Braking Control Mechanism. Research is being carried out with the involvement of JRF and UG and PG students on topics like Anti Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronics Stability Program (ESP) and allied areas.

The study on Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is another area focussed upon with tuning and control of vehicle parameters studied and performed. The Vehicle to Vehicle Communication and a study towards Autonomous Vehicle Development is also catered to in the Facility. Research is being carried out on the Battery Management Systems ranging from utilization of conventional Pb Acid batteries to more compact high energy density batteries like Li ion and Li Po battery packs. The various BMS Algorithms are being studied and new methodologies developed to ensure longevity and better and safe performances of the Li based battery packs.

Artificial Intelligence based Multi Objective Optimization approach is the focus area for development of the various controllers. Development of charging infrastructure is another area where research is undertaken involving the Renewable Energy based Slow and Fast charging for EV.
